Street Team Show - Update
Hey everybody! We had our 2nd planning meeting last night and it went well. Although there were only 2 of us there from the last gathering, we had 2 new "heads" and some new ideas. Connie [kissmydevochka] and Rabbit [75rabbit] joined the planning committee and they had lots of great ideas to share.
Although the "Orange Peel" has not been ruled out as a venue, we've decided to check with the new Downtown Market in Asheville for a possible show in early October. We will know something this weekend regarding that. Collectively, we thought this would be a great area, since it's inside, there are already tables set up AND, it's already being promoted as a place to purchase handmade things. Plus, those peeps who have never done shows, or don't have any display equipment can still be part of the Street Team Show. Plus, if we get enough of us together for a show, we can probably get a pretty good deal on space for one Saturday. Anyway, we will be scheduling another meeting as soon as we get the information for the space. I just wanted to do this quick post for those of you that are involved with the planning, or interested in the show itself. I'll be posting again over the weekend, or Monday with another update and to let you know when the next meeting will be.
Thanks everybody!!! Let's make the Asheville Etsy Team the best!! Please feel free to jump right in with any suggestions, or ideas you have. You can either comment on this post, or send me an e-mail to Kathy@dornickdesigns.com ~

Call to local jewelry designers!
Leslie of Spiritex wanted to offer this information to the local jewelers of Asheville Etsy Street Team and we really appreciate it!
Spiritex, a locally owned organic cotton clothing boutique, is looking to bolster our wearable accessories department (jewelry, hair accessories, etc.)
Located on the corner of College Street and Haywood Street, across the street from Pritchard Park, Spiritex is a prime retail location. If you are working to sell your handmade jewelry in Asheville, there is no better retail location to expose and sell your wares right in the heart of downtown.
This is an exciting opportunity, both for the store as well as up and coming artists, so we ask for serious inquiries only.
Interested parties please contact the posted email address with information (i.e your webstore, Etsy site, etc.) pertaining to your product. We will be scheduling times for folks to come by our downtown shop and show off your accessories in person.
Thanks,
Spiritex

Street Team Show!
Happy Spring everybody! I just had to share this gorgeous Orchid with you...I went to the Orchid Show yesterday at the North Carolina Arboretum. All of the colors are just beautiful and such an inspiration. If you ever get in one of those designing slumps [like we all do from time to time], just one afternoon at the Arboretum will certainly get your creative juices flowing again, I promise. So now to the business at hand.
If you are reading this post, I'm assuming that you have joined the "Asheville Etsy Street Team" through the Etsy website. If not, you can contact the team by clicking on the link and asking to join [the criteria for becoming a member is listed on that page, as well]. Basically, you just need to live in or around the Asheville area and have a shop on Etsy to join. By becoming a member, you can then gain access to the google group, which is specifically for members only and where most of the "happenings" of the group are shared and discussed. One of the recent discussions was about having a "Street Team Show". Several members were very interested and six of us got together last Tuesday evening to start initial planning. Since we are not sure of how many members actually belong to the google group, I am posting this message to the blog, as well. Our next "planning" meeting will be on Monday, April 26th. If you are interested in helping to plan the show, or just interested in having a space to sell your work at the show, please let me know. You can either post a comment to this blog, or send me an e-mail directly: Kathy@dornickdesigns.com ~ if you leave a comment, please include your name and e-mail address so we can add you to the list and keep you updated on the progress.
So far, Emily has been in contact with the "Orange Peel" and they are perfectly fine with us having a show there...we just need to pin-point a date. It looks like September 4th will possibly work, but that's still not for certain right now. But it's exciting and it's a start. Any input from you will certainly be appreciated!!
A big "Thanks" to Michelle for getting this whole thing started! Thanks Michelle!! I also want to thank Shannon & Liz for creating the Team to begin with and for their support. Thanks Shanon & Liz! And, if you haven't done so yet, be sure to become a "Fan" of the Asheville Etsy Street Team Facebook page! ~ Thanks Shannon!
I'm certainly looking forward to meeting more of the team members.
Thanks for being so awesome everybody & keep supporting handmade!

The Handmade Marketplace Book...
...I just had to share this and let everybody know about this awesome book! One of the main reasons I bought it is because it is illustrated by Emily Martin [The Black Apple], who happens to be one of my most favorite artists/sellers on Etsy. But, I tell you, I have literally not been able to put this little book down. It is chockablock full of useful information from lots of different folks, including crafters, photographers, Matt [one of the founders of Etsy.com], accounts, writers, etc. ~ simply a must have for anybody making & selling crafts these days. Plus, it's only a little over $10!!! Gosh, this would have been gold to me 6 years ago, when I first started out. What has taken me years to learn & figure out is stuffed into a little 210 page book. Amazing! Plus, it's really cute and fun to look at and there are literally a gazillion links to tons of information and resources.
Good luck everybody!! Hope to see and meet you all soon!
♥ & peace always ~ Kathy ~ Dornick Designs.
